Ultrasil
®
VN3 and Ultrasil ® VN3
GR are Insilco’s
premium grades of spray dried precipitated silica powder of very high purity,
developed primarily as white reinforcing fillers for the rubber industry
using Degussa technology. These grades
possess the highest potential for reinforcement of rubber compound and
impart high tensile strength, tear resistance, abrasion resistance and
shore hardness to these compounds.
Ultrasil
®
VN3 GR is the mechanically compacted granular form of Ultrasil
®
VN3 which has been primarily developed due to:
a)
Need for faster incorporation with medium and high Mooney viscosity
compounds.
b)
Growing demand for minimum dust content of silica on account of
environmental regulations.
Granulated
silica improves incorporation and significantly reduces the level of dust.
It has higher tamped density than powder material.
The
powder grade of Ultrasil ®
VN3 can normally be used for all
applications, including those where granules cannot be used due to
inadequate shear forces, resulting from too low compound viscosity.
Granulated
silica remains stable during transport.
Ultrasil
®
VN2 GR covers
areas of application almost identical to those of Ultrasil ®
VN3 GR.
As
a result of the reduced BET surface in comparison with Ultrasil ®
VN3 GR, it features improved processability.
On account of lower transparency compared with Ultrasil ®
VN3 GR,
it is not recommended for soling material.
Ultrasil
®
FW possess a very high potential for
reinforcement and is specially designed for
application in Shoe soles/Hawai chappals. It is also used in
combination with dry bonding agents to impart high adhesion values to the
end product.

Applications
of Ultrasil ®

VN3 GR in transparent soles are mainly due to their high
surface area, purity and refractive index.

tyre casing compounds and conveyor belts etc. is mainly to impart high
adhesion values in combination with dry bonding agents.

| General
Information
Like any other silica, there is a marginal effect on
cross-link density of sulphur cure systems which is compensated by the
addition of diethyleneglycol, triethanolamine or alkaline accelerators.
The product is of high purity and in combination with appropriate
compounding ingredients, yields vulcanisates of excellent end properties.
By means of reinforcing type silane coupling agent
developed by Degussa such as Si 69, X 50-S (solid form of Si
69 in combination
with Carbon Black), Si 230 and Si 264 etc. in combination with Ultrasil ®
VN3 GR / Ultrasil ®
VN2 GR / Ultrasil ®
VN3 / Ulrasil ® FW the static and dynamic performance as well as
processability of rubber compounds can be greatly increased.
